I never was a fan of commercial vpns. It is way easier to piggyback on an "open" wlan if you need access like this. Also placing one or another TOR exit node here and there can actually help a lot.

back in my day : ssh or vpn aren't even commercial, we buy vps and tweak it as we wanted. That's safer than nowadays 'honeypot' vpn

I had casually wondered if people had used their vps's for that purpose. Just run openvpn on it or something? Also just pondering, could the purveyor of the server also get basically the same information from you as a commercial VPN could? Then you'd lose the "security through obscurity" benefit

yeah... but people aren't so advanced as of today.

In my city we have a quite "giant" open vpn running with local WLAN's attached to it. 839 exit nodes ain't that bad considering the mean age of our citizens. One things i will miss when moving away from here.

"Speaking at a webinar on 'Preventing and combating child sexual abuse [and] exploitation', Johansson called for a 'technical solution' to what she described as the 'problem' of encryption, and announced that her office had initiated 'a special group of experts from academia, government, civil society and business to find ways of detecting and reporting encrypted child sexual abuse material.'”

They will literally use any excuse to get what they want. Does anyone actually believe they'll use these changes to go after child abusers?

yea there's even a report, that intelligent will use this 'hate spot' (child abuser/pedophile) to condemn righteous people. Like what they do to Assange w/ fake accusations of being a rapist/molester.

I don't trust that crooks. Encryption should exist or at least you can 'disable' it only after you erase all of the diseases inside government cleanly.

Encryption has been the basic standard of internet privacy from day one. Even if government didn't exist, I would want encryption on my end protecting my computer from remote viewing..

This is just going to create a black market for actually encrypted devices. People will still have them, even if they're made illegal.

If we lived in a still sovereign country, a foreign nation attempting to spy on Americans should be considered an act of war..
