https://www.wired.com/2012/06/torvalds-nvidia-linux/ Linus Torvalds, the creator of Linux, has said they are the worst company to work with and they provide little effort to help their hardware run with Linux. He went as far as facing the camera, flipped the bird and said “Nvidia, f#$k you.”
https://www.wired.com/2012/06/nvidia-linus-torvald/ Nvidia did respond saying their propriety drivers are to ensure the best experience possible and that they do support Linux development.
So them buying ARM definitely scares the open source crowd that has put considerable effort in this chipset thanks to devices like Raspberry Pi. It's a given that they'll try to close off what they can and claim it's for performance and efficiency.
