Funnily enough, when searching for this article to post - I found a very similar version of the story from 2016, which I thought was a little interesting (that the same story was trying to break ground 4 years ago and must have failed).

Good video, thanks!

Sounds like bullshit. Wait, it is bullshit!

No company is going to make something that lasts a thousand years anymore. They invented planned obsolescence for a reason.

I agree completely! Still an interesting idea, despite the pretty good dedunking video another user posted.

Their goal is to ultimately commercialize a version of their battery that can self-charge for up to a maximum lifespan of 28,000 years, created from artificial diamond-encased carbon-14 nuclear waste.

I can't wait to buy shares.

This one is an old product, over hyped.

Well admittedly the power density of prototypes is going to be very low. That's not "debunking", it's being obtuse. I'm not watching a 30 minute video in order to see what that guy thinks about it, especially that he sounds like A SUPER MEGA ASSHOLE pseudo-skeptic. These guys are the worst.

Power density is what this is being sold on. Without it, it is a very niche product.

Agreed. In such a case, "debunking" this tech is disingenuous when they explicitly state that this is a very early prototype. OF COURSE it isn't a commercially viable product yet. I think people will be impressed with this tech once they pack enough C14 in there. Hell maybe they could make the diamonds ENTIRELY out of C14 and package the battery in a radiation shield. It's diamond. You're not likely to break it.

Just as long as they don't pack C4 in there by mistake.

It's an interesting idea especially for things that don't need continuous current. Low-current radioactive battery + super-capacitor can give larger currents for things that only run for short periods of time.

You can pretty easily shatter a diamond with a hammer. It's hard but brittle, like a Japanese knife.

A diamond, yes. A carbon-fiber matrix containing an array of nanodiamonds would be VERY VERY difficult to break.

Hold my beer.

Funny. You should know what I mean: if you package it right, such a battery can be very hard to break.

beta customers

I guess they've finished alpha testing already.

They're only saying that because when C14 decays, it emits beta particles.
