Everyone's a harvester. That being said, I had a Toshiba Chromebook now nearing end of security updates, and except for the fact that it was a Google device and required WiFi, it was a darn good machine. Fast. Bright. Clean. I may yet put Linux on it once it reaches end of life.

Not everyone is. I run various linux distros and feel quite secure from that perspective

I love ThinkPads. I either get those or Dell (business class) machines, though work gave me a business class HP laptop and though I still officially sneer at it it's actually holding up pretty well.
