Hate is an adaptive response to certain environmental stimuli. It can create and solve problems, do both, or do neither. But on balance it probably solves more problems than it creates, otherwise it would not be so common.

But if you are speaking on an evolutionary scale: our adaptive mechanisms for interpreting information and applying emotions are not accurate due to biases. For example, do you hate hitler? Did you even know hitler? Are your emotions and attitudes accurate via tangible experiences of said object?

Henceforth, common hate may not actually solve more problems than it creates. Just look at Elliot Rogers
