One think I hate about being a human is how our brain creates the illusion that our perception is nearly perfect by quietly filling in all sorts of blank behind the scenes. One of those illusions is that we have freedom of thought, when in reality our thoughts are rigidly dictated by what little we've been exposed to in our limited life experiences.

That's a great observation. It's like the known knowns, the known unknowns, and the unknown unknowns. The more naive we are, the less aware we are of the unknown unknowns and the fact they exist at all, as you pointed out.

We do have freedom of thought. We can train ourselves to think outside the box. Unfortunately, most people who claim that they're helping us to "wake up" are really just trying to push something else onto us.

Visit LessWrong to become less wrong. Apart from the massive anti-death bias, you'll find very little pressuring, posturing or manipulation. It features such wonders as Pascal's mugging, HPMoR and Einstein's Arrogance.

The mind's tricky, there's a lot of games it can play

Tell me what's wrong, I'll make it okay

Life's a mindfuck, you can sing to the Lord

But you're just a result of everything you were taught

Very fancy when I do my thing to the drum
