Only the top of the gasoline will catch light so you can hold your breath and swim under the flame until you get somewhere safe. Then your are going to have to rely on drop and roll.

Did you ever have gasoline on your skin for more than two minutes ?

Don't ask how, but I did. So I strongly advise against swimming in gasoline.

Also, I was told it isn't the gasoline that actually burns, but rather the air-fumes mixture.

That is why you don't get these high-degree burns instantly when soaked and burning.

If and only if you are able to extinguish the fire quickly enough.

This pain haunts you for hours. Not the burns, but the gasoline itself that diffuses into your body.

The burns are easier to take since the pain from them kicks in later and is more of a numbing nature.
