When reading about Russia and Ukraine, the argument was put forth that Putin did not intend to hold Ukraine, and as proof, he did not have enough troops to do so. The rule of thumb is something like 22 soldiers per 1000 dissidents. So, say 50m dissidents would require about 1.1m troops.

They didn't expect that many against them. They expected to be met by cheering crowds. They still talk about liberating the Ukrainians from their Nazi oppressors.

No. It's well known that eastern Ukraine is much more ethnically Russian, and the western part is more white nationalist/neo-Nazi. I'm sure Putin knows EXACLY what to expect. What was NOT clear is the extent of NATO involvement, which is ramping up to be a proxy war.

What the American population is not being told is that Obama installed the current neo-Nazi government back in 2013. Go search for storm clouds gathering and watch his video on Ukraine that was created back in 2014.

Putin/Russia holds the high ground when all the information is presented. In order to drum up support for NATO and possible war with Russia, the media does not present the full picture.

Why is Russia in Ukraine? NATO keeps pushing closer and Russia wants to keep a buffer. The Neo-Nazi stuff is just the moral justification/high ground.
