This is a narrow perspective. Look at all these WIN-videos floating around. I believe most people just don't like share / expose their fails. But they surely went into these "wins". I'm always wondering how much time actually went into stuff like that. There is even a word for that: Experience, which is positively con-notated when actually the time spend achieving this "win" may be lost for most parts.

Facebash and other "social" networks found a way to make money from getting people obsessed / addicted to compare or even stalk each other.
