    I know you're a stickler for quotes but this time I beat you to it. :) Here's a quiz for you — who said, "I'd rather be the man who bought the Brooklyn Bridge than the man who sold it"?

    You did beat me. :( I actually knew this one and quote it to people often, in person.

    I'm more interested in verifying the accuracy of quotes. Good or not, they shouldn't be misattributed.

    Yup.

    As for the quote in question, it is quite possibly misattributed, like so many other quotes. Here is one possible explanation: Twain kept a diary of his musings and asked that it not be published until a hundred years after his death in 1910 and his wishes were followed. That might explain the confusion. I have not read the book...yet.
