There is so much fakery due to extreme left activists, so I am never certain what of these things is true.

In the same wikipedia (top-right) it shows that the democratic party was using this term to warn against the anti-slavery plans of Lincoln.
So why is the democratic party not cancelled?

It could be that Suess meant to be wrong to express (dark) humor.

But those times seem pretty extreme.
