I don't know if I agree with this quote. I think "advancing a cause" can be much different than protecting the foundation and principles of a good society.

Yes. Sometimes people in authority feel like they have to do something to justify their job, even if they are only in that position in case they are needed. It's like the old saying goes: if you're a hammer, everything else is a nail.

The thing is that all authentically held causes need to seek power in order to advance themselves and all powerful cabals, regardless of how corrupt and self-dealing they are, advance a pretextual cause.

    The state was supposed to protect people from other states and bandits, so they can freely pursuit their idea of happiness. Not to endlessly advance its favorite causes.
