The trouble is with your take is that Orwell spent years among those kinds of revolutionaries and protestors and 1984 was drawn of his experience of the way they operated so much as the state.

Sieg Heil! I agree! The people must ensure that whoever leads their nation truly represents them! When that happens, the police returns to their role as protectors of the people, to the point of being able to arrest people in positions of "power" for overstepping their mandate.

When did we see that? When did we see that and it led to a conviction and sentence that was not utterly ridiculous?

Well, yeah... What I meant by "what's wrong with you" is that I believed we should have enough of a mutual understanding that you would figure that my sentence of "returning to their role as protectors of the people" meant returning to their PRINCIPLED role...

And I agree, they were never that, but the principle is still valid.
