I don't know. It's always been pretty easy to kill a lot of people. The Mongols were especially good at it and all they had where horsemen with swords and arrows.

Modern technology has clearly gotten even easier to kill people, but it's also made it easier to control people. Just look at all the Americans living in one of the safest most prosperous country in the world (pandemic nonwithstanding) who think they're basically living in 1940s era Germany. They believe that because the people controlling them want them to believe that.
