Nice one. Self-improvement is often better than trying to fix society, cause you can strengthen yourself a lot faster than you can persuade other people to sort themselves out

But I can't clean my room, wake up before noon, stop smoking pot, and stop masturbating until I first reorganize the global economy.

At the ripe old age of 17 years old clearly I'm the most qualified person to do it.

This me. Except I'm in my 30s.

I joke ... I guess I kind of have my shit together financially and fitness wise.

Yes and a living example is also more useful to others than a bunch of lectures

Very inspirational. Contains a lot of my concept of applied continuous self-improvement for minds that work in an other way than mine.

This is a paraphrase of aesop's fable (hercules and the wagoner). While in aesop's fable it made sense, Chris' example doesn't quite work. I would rather help person who needs help, than person who thinks he doesn't need it, and everyone should mind one's own business.

Literally the opposite of nigger mentality. he was taking shots at other blacks here.

That's exactly how I read this too. You know this pissed off black people and white liberals.

Such a positive message. If there were more black people like him in the limelight we wouldn't have Black Lives Matter or the Black Panthers.

or a woman (you get falsely accused)

[–][deleted] 4 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

yes, i didnt think about that, but ya i wont help out a women either, its too risky, her black boyfriend might be hiding in the bushes ready to jump you as well

helping old people seems safe

[–][deleted] 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Probably. But be careful. Old people often get attacked by black people playing the knock out game, you might get attacked too if in the vicinity.

Haha, it does work like that. Civic broke down in front of a camp of homeless people. Once I got out and pushed, then like 3 people came to help.

This quote is definitely inspirational, but who steers the car if you push it alone?

[–][deleted] 5 insightful - 3 fun5 insightful - 2 fun6 insightful - 3 fun -  (8 children)

You're pushing from the driver side door and steering with your right hand. It's awkward as fuck, but desperate times call for desperate measures.

Oh

That makes sense. I'm stupid.

Username is especially amusing in this context.

Chris Rock is also right. I've seen the exact situation he's described. Some people are empathetic enough to lend a hand when someone else is trying but still struggling. It's a good mindset to cultivate regardless, being proactive about improving your own circumstances, because there's no guarantee anyone will come when you call.

It reminds me of starting saidit... 3 years ago I kept crying "Why won't someone build another reddit? This website is obviously corrupt and broken!"

and then finally one day, I was like... where is the actual reddit open source code, let's install ubuntu and get this going. If no one is going to do this, I have to do this. And then d3rr came along to help "push the car", because he saw I was actually giving it real effort and serious time and trying my best... and now we have saidit

Looking around today, there really aren't that many stable alternatives with similar design, so this project you both took on couldn't have been timelier. Whole communities sought a place to regroup, and now we all get to come along for the ride - which thankfully isn't catastrophically tipping over from the load or eager to censor. I think that's how it often goes, nothing gets done until someone's finally frustrated enough that they say 'fuck it' and do it themselves. It's how I got started with game modding and learned basic coding, because I realized certain things could simply be done better, even by someone with comparatively little experience. Having that validated by others can rewarding too. I love to see my stuff downloaded and actively used.

Yeah I think you're right. And we've spent a lot of time refining the saidit software for others to launch other own saidit-like site. And it's 100x easier to get going than the reddit open source, because we fixed all the major issues it had (which is why no one else is really using it...)

So we hope to not only make a cool site, but make the tools for others to easily also make their own website. Several months ago we already had someone who launched the saidit clone portcity.online. We hope to see more like this, because we've made the tools much easier to use, and added tons of documentation.

So hopefully the next person won't have to be as fed up as I was before they take the first steps in to making their own site!

I had been driving up a hill toward my apartment years ago during a huge snow storm. I see halfway up a group of guys pushing their car up the hill, too slippery to just drive up. I get out, go and help them. Turns out they are ukrainian and don't speak english but it was universally known what was going on so no need to communicate. I help get them up and go back to my car, it had all wheel drive but the lack of momentum made it so now I couldn't get up the hill but luckily the guys understood and came down and helped push me up the hill. No communication necessary.

BLM is if they stopped traffic and held you at gunpoint to make you push the car yourself.
