Terribly difficult to break the conditioning of generations of manipulation
and the worship of shallow materialism, Big McMansions and shiny SUV trucks!

Yes imo the true heart of the problem is our cultural obsession with consumerism, which is fed by advertising, which is driven by profits, which is driven by greed. It always seems to come back to the fact the most greedy are among the most powerful and venerated in American culture... everyone is a "temporarily embarrassed millionaire" just waiting their turn to win the metaphorical lottery, so they think that possibility justifies the status quo

As long as it's 100% grassroots voluntary libertarian-socialism, and not authoritarian top-down forced socialism like the USSR or Mao's China... if it's the latter then we just wind up in the same situation all over again!

But the former could be a way out of this authoritarian system we find ourselves in... it just takes cooperation and everyone doing their part to build a system that is so good it makes the old system obsolete

There was nothing SOCIALIST about the USSR or China. Yes, I am aware that Marx and Lenin tried co-opting the word for their purposes because, believe it or not, back then SOCIALISM was a noble and smart set of ideas. So Marx and Lenin called their horrors "socialism done right" and their empire, "Socialist". But that does not make it true. In fact, when you use their co-opted meaning for this word, YOU ARE REPEATING MARXIST-LENINIST PROPAGANDA! And yes, most of the Western English-language mainstream (and non-mainstream) media are guilty of this.

So, you're saying that the wealth that is to be redistributed will be voluntarily surrendered rather than confiscated by force?

No redistribution of wealth is necessary at all when everyone is self-sustaining and their freedoms aren't impinged upon

It would be wonderful if the world operated like this. Human nature is such that there are a LOT of people that do not wish to be self sustaining. They prefer to sustain themselves by leeching off the labor of other people.

I was with him until the last line.
