"It's fuckin' embarrassing ... Only a nation of unenlightened half-wits could have taken this beautiful place and turned it into what it is today - a shopping mall. Mile after mile of mall after mall, many many malls, major malls, and mini malls. They put the mini malls in between the major malls, and in between the mini malls they put the mini marts, and in between the mini marts ya got the car lots, gas stations, muffler shops, cheap hotels, fast food restaurants, strip joints and dirty bookstores, America The Beautiful, one big transcontinental commercial cesspool." George Carlin

(Oh, George, if only you could see us today)

Always Better To Hear It From Him:
Dumb Americans - George Carlin

What a load of crap. George Carlin had some great lines, but he was a left-wing idealist. Like all left-wing idealists, they can never, ever see their perfect society realized. And what do idealists do when they understand that they won't see perfection? Hate. Pure, creative hate. They'll take whatever they don't like and gin up hatred about it, even if it's uncalled-for. They're not being rational, they're not being thoughtful. They're just pouring out their negative emotions on everyone else in an attempt to make us unhappy, too. After all, if they can't have their perfect society, why should anyone else get to enjoy our imperfect one?

George Carlin doesn't like commerce? The business of America is business. He should have found another country to live in.

America was turned from an untracked wilderness into the world's most amazing country. Any other people would have turned it into either Mexico, a country of unfulfilled potential, or China, an overpopulated shithole. The Americans created something special, a country that feeds the world, and one that's self-sufficient in energy as well. I'm not the only one who noticed this:

Is it a misfortune that magnificent California was seized from the lazy Mexicans who did not know what to do with it?

He's talking about blacks unable to manage Africa eventhough it's full of ressources?

No, he's talking about your parents' ability to raise children.

If I were American I'd spend all my time in national parks/jungles/woods/trails/whatever you guys call it. I used to look at these things in cartoons as a child and always felt awesome about them. Some ppl I know keep talking about how "modern" your cities are and how there are so many "malls" so you can consume faster - I pity them. Literally every city in my country has a bunch of overpriced malls where you can satisfy your consumption needs of inferior objects than the uneducated guy beside the mall sells, but safe natural landscaped where you won't be bothered by goons with/without a uniform is what is sparse. It has been a few months since I saw the night sky in all its glory.

It is not the malls that ended that dream you have; it is overpopulation. If not for the malls and other distractions, if not for modern farming and modern inventions, those forests would be filled with violent people fighting over scarce food for survival. It's just so easy to find such a convenient scapegoat as capitalism when you were raised by a soft communist education system and media.

Americans revere urban areas and look down on anyone who lives in "natural areas" i.e. rural Americans. We call them "deplorable" and look down on them as everything that's the problem with America.

Probably happens in all countries. Geniuses from my country on reddit, with a false sense of superiority and no connection with reality recommended taking away the voting rights of rural people so only High IQ couch potatoes like him can take the correct decision for some hardworking farmers who are ""illiterate"".

Industrialization is the problem.
