Fun fact: Bruce Lee was also a champion ballroom dancer.

That is neat. I would have liked to have tried a class or few and/or of swing just to see. I don't expect it would really jive with me and my girl, but maybe. At the very least I'd learn about them a little differently than just watching a YouTube tutorial or documentary.

I’m a bit over 50 and I learned this some months ago. People will tell you to learn “patience”. Well, it’s not that. You must learn to not react. People will intentionally try to “get a rise” out of you in order to cast you in a bad light. You must resist. Be the rock. Breathe so that you oxygenate your brain. Think through things. There is time. Don’t be herded. Take your time and when you’re ready figuratively shoot them in the head.

    Bruce Lee Vs Jackie Chan

Now there’s a fight I’d pay Chris Tucker to see.

    I’m not saying he’s wrong.

But logic is as bad as not logic if you actually wanna get Vajrayana Buddhist about it.

Let’s just agree to leave it at Breathe and Allow things to Pass.

Please explain, if you don't mind.

logic is as bad as not logic

    this is a logical statement

    Yes it is.

    Read Wittgenstein.

    [–]proc0 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (6 children)

Sure, I've been wanting to study his works but haven't gotten around yet.

As like a moon, he is a harsh mistress.

What do you want to know.

    [–]proc0 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (3 children)

Which of his works is a good starting point?

    [–]beermeem 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

I would start with On Certainty.

The “problem” with Wittgenstein is that his “major” work Tractatus, he completely backtracks on. But dumb people still adhere to it.

If you start with Tractatus and the brown book, you’ll be lost forever. You have to read him backwards. On Certainty, then the Blue Book. Then, if you want to understand dumb people, go back to the Brown Book and Tractatus. It’s truly brilliant. You’ll never argue on the internet again.

    Excellent, thank you.

But reading a book means I'll have to get off the Internet!!!

    Everything in moderation, including moderation.

I guess people know shit when they see it.

You know Kansas will pay you to live in Kansas.

    [–]JasonCarswell 2 insightful - 3 fun2 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 3 fun -  (9 children)

I don't know about Kansas, but I know some Zen, and I know about drugs.

At Burning Man and stuff I used to often say, "Everything in moderation, including moderation." I'm pretty sure I made it up, but I wouldn't be surprised if others said it too. It gave me an excuse to be moderate and it gave me an excuse to occasionally say fuck it and go overboard.

    [–]beermeem 2 insightful - 3 fun2 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 3 fun -  (4 children)

When were you at Burningman, like 2009? Like, were you in the Malcolm In The Middle episode?

    [–]JasonCarswell 2 insightful - 3 fun2 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 3 fun -  (3 children)

I went from 1999-2008, ten years in a row and lots of regional events and more.

The entire Malcolm stuff was 100% staged for the show and was VASTLY inferior to the real deal. But it was amusing none-the-less. The Simpsons parody was pretty spectacular too.

Many shows have tried to film there, but Burning Man must be very protective of their identity and their non-commercialized community, though there's no shortages of controversies.

    Do you want in?

In? You mean go back? In a heartbeat. I'd also need to reconnect with my peops.

Badger on silverchat in Austin was saying that in '96 at least, it's where I heard the term first.

    [–]JasonCarswell 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

I went to Burning Flipside in Austin a couple times, lived there a bit. Visited again in 2007. Great town, great folks.

    A+++ Very zen.

    [–]beermeem 2 insightful - 3 fun2 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 3 fun -  (5 children)

Then why was his son murdered on a movie set?

    [–]JasonCarswell 4 insightful - 3 fun4 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 3 fun -  (4 children)

    1) How does his death or his son's death have anything to do with his zen statement?

    2) Sometimes accidents do happen.

    3) If you know of a deeper conspiracy about the death of The Crow (great flick), I'd love to hear it. I thrive on good conspiracies and haven't had a good one lately (besides this manufactured crisis shit).

    [–]beermeem 2 insightful - 3 fun2 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 3 fun -  (3 children)

I dunno. How does someone get shot to death on a movie set?

    [–]JasonCarswell 2 insightful - 3 fun2 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 3 fun -  (2 children)

The prop gun was not handled properly. I don't recall if there was some debris, half a bullet, or what it was that was lodged in the barrel, but when the blank went off, it propelled it like a bullet, even if it wasn't a full round, it lodged in his spine I think.

    Close enough:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brandon_Lee#Death
I thought it reached his spine, through his gut, though they didn't say here.

Great quote, I needed this right now tbh lol. Do you mind if I crosspost it to /s/life and give you credit?

Sure. Bruce Lee has some more good quotes.

Thank you! :) I never saw this quote by him tbh, and again, tbh, I needed to see this right now at this point in my life, so thank you for posting it as well.

This is one of my faves from a movie: “ Don't think. FEEL. It's like a finger pointing at the moon. Do not concentrate on the finger, or you will miss all of the heavenly glory.

I did a wicked mashup sampling it over a dozen years ago.
