War is only a cowardly escape from the problems of peace. --Thomas Mann

That one struck me.

Do not needlessly endanger your lives until I give you the signal. — Dwight W. Eisenhower

God that is hilarious but also tragically true. Anyone who hasn't taken a moment to listen to his departing speech, really should. He talks about how the military-industrial complex is taking over the government. It's one of the most exposing speeches a president has ever given, imo. Close to JFK's "Secret societies" speech that he gave a month before he was killed. He exposes the whole game in just 2 minutes and 30 seconds. This is a guy who was also a 5-star general so he knows how this stuff works.

I'm sure you know there was no intention to mock Eisenhower there. He was warning his troops, and later warning all of us to watch out for that MI Complex. That was just when everything started to go sideways too. But we didn't listen.
