I don’t understand….. What has gender got to do with this book. It’ll be doomed to be forgotten by history I suspect.

A much more readable book would be how far along we’ve come in implementing the tools used by big brother and highlighting real modern day equivalence. Probably need to include “A brave new world” as reference material.

The title is a bit of an exaggeration, but the book they're talking about is still a bad idea.

They are not rewriting 1984. They are writing a companion book from the point of view of the female lead in the story, Julia. The Orwell estate (who is sanctioning this new book) says the two books are meant to stand side by side.

That said, this is still a terrible idea. 1984 is the work of a genius who was prescient enough to see where the trends of his society were leading. He correctly predicted the insanity we are now living. Making a derivative work from such a prediction is hollow. Winston Smith - as a character - is entirely secondary in the power of the book. It's not really about Winston Smith. It's about the evolution of all ruling classes to eliminate the capacity of anyone to disagree with them. It doesn't matter whether the characters are male or female, or from any other division one cares to throw out there. Nobody is allowed to disagree. Getting lost in the "he vs she" or the "black vs white" or the "old vs young" or any of the million other divisions of people we can come up with feeds perfectly into precisely the insanity the oligarchy loves. These are the exact tools they use to maintain their power.

Orwell's descendants do not understand his work, and are here unintentionally doing exactly the work of those very forces he was vehemently opposed to. What a pity.

Yeah I'm doubting anyone will read it. But what do I know
