Nice sub! Java is at least extremely cross-platform. That's really the only thing it has going for it, imo.
But nowadays, most internet applications are cross-platform as all browsers work basically the same across operating systems. So sometimes I wonder about the usefulness of Java in 2019. Although the web-based alternatives are pretty cumbersome too, and often like 4+ languages are required to use in conjunction to achieve the desired result. Java at least avoids this in part.
