Another 'service' to get out from under is "iTunes", on which you 'own' nothing: You're merely renting DRM.

As far as digital music services go I've been really happy with Bandcamp. They offer DRM free files in lossless FLAC and mp3, and take a much lower cut from the artist than many other distribution services (only 15%). I don't use their mobile app though, since it's closed source and has a bunch of embedded analytics.
