Safe for what, is the question. You're not hiding your identity from those really interested. As for your data, think about the motivations to create a service that solicites your most valuable secrets.
Relocating your request for a connection to an unblocked country or region is the best use case for a VPN. I've not run across anything that's so compelling I'd get a VPN to see it, and wouldn't consider any VPN safe.
How are you going to know if they're mining your data? I'd look for a good UI, and still not trust them with anything I wouldn't post in a comment.
