If I got to youtube.com, my browser, Brave, does not detect any cookies or fingerprinters, even though I have those blocked by default. Why is this? Isn’t youtube a major tracking site?

Your VPN will be detected if you have WebRTC enabled.

Hey try newpipe from fdroid it's virtualy track free and wonderful it even plugs into Kodi easy. You can use it for all your YouTube needs.i love it. For over a year now. Open source and add free. Mostly they don't have time to track you, even better. It even works on old phones 4.4. enjoy. I make no money from this recommendation just love the app. They also make a great add on called musicpiped it's amazing as well. Hope this helps. Sorry this was not ment as a reply to your wonderful comment about webrtc I'm just hitting buttons.lol

Mostly they don't have time to track you
The developer's time does not have a matter on whether or not you are tracked. The purpose of the app is to not track you and we can know that for sure because the app is open-source.
Kidding man check I out.
