This is why I've never personally owned an Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook, Google+, or whatever account. Yeah all my friends have them and I'm left out, but I don't feel the need to prove myself/friendship/use these things to maintain them (or rather an app determine how close I am with my friends and how much we stay in contact) - if you don't keep in contact with me because I'm not on the same platform you use when we live 15 minutes away, fuck you. I don't use Google Docs either, despite being a Uni student; there really is no reason for it outside of group projects, and another member will always get the Google Doc started. Despite even all of this, I know they still have a profile on me.

And lol@ "his excuse for giving away his privacy":

"For the longest time, my excuse not to live privately was "Honestly, I'd rather pay with my privacy rather than not have all these cool things that are provided to me".

That's the exact excuse all these big tech, data stealing companies use:

"It's a trade off - we're giving you access to our technology/service, you're giving us access to your data.. Except sometimes you also have to pay to access our service, and regardless of you paying or not, your data will be sold all across the globe indefinitely, to anyone willing to buy it, no matter what intentions they have".

We're all fucked anyway, but hopefully he's learned not to make their jobs easier for them.

edit: This just reminded me, do you guys remember this video?

Even talking around devices can result in ads; not to mention the monitoring, and sensors tracking you in a store. It's 1984+ v2.0

I email myself random things just to see what kind of recommendations and advertisements Google gives me. The scariest recommendations are the ones based on what photos I've taken. I took a photo of a box of some weird chinese tea thing and I immediately got adverts for buying stuff from alibaba.

Ever try to build a phone with no Google? They want your address so. Bad! like a 2 dollar internet hooker. I'm with ya. I like China phones at this point maybe giving "me" away to them is somehow better than the huge vacuuming of America from the billions of us here at home. Just kidding seriously. I mean it. Some one said if we are the money then the truth is they should be paying us. It can never happen unless we do away the middle men isp the gate keepers. Keep the advertisers just change the payee make them pay us.

My personal wellbeing improved when I ditched the smart phone and regressed to an old Nokia flipper. Of course it meant falling out of contact with a great many of my small pool of friends, foreign and domestic, but y'know, I'm ok with that. Your real friends are happy to accommodate your choices and can manage to use SMS texting to stay in touch. Heck, some even choose to see you in person.

I have enjoyed proton mail my advertising junk has gone way down in the years I have been using them.I set my browser to not save anything and boom no more junk. Along with a VPN. I know it works I cant sign into my bank anymore. With them on. My kids don't like it either it breaks most sites they visit. Because I also block advertisements. The other advise is don't shop Amazon. Once the cookie is in place every body knows everything.

I will never understand why even from the beginning, people thought it was a good idea to put Amazon Alexa's into their home, and even after knowing it's always recording and storing data while not activated, people still continue to buy/keep them in their homes. You're literally fucking paying to bug your home and giving your data away for free to billionaires who are going to sell it without even giving you .00001% return on the content you generated and they sold.
