Sad thing is that this law is even required.

I also think that the starting fines are way too low. Should start off with $500 or something like that to make people think before engaging in such destructing behavior.

They did it here in Canada a while ago - the world didn't end.

In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if cancer incidence falls in the 25-year follow-up studies.

Until your kid can give informed consent to breathing that garbage, this kind of thing is abuse.

Does anyone get the feeling that if our overlords decreed that everyone must have their thumbs amputated, Americans would agree that the law makes sense and must be obeyed?

Not really. Certainly not from this. Things can generally be lumped into four categories:

  • Obviously a bad idea.
  • A bad idea, but not intuitively so, and people have been convinced it's a good one.
  • A good idea, but not intuitively so, and people have been convinced it's a bad one.
  • So unobvious that I can't sort it into any of the above categories.

Americans are whistling down to the concentration camps.

Of all the things you could point to as a sign of America slipping into the abyss of totalitarianism, this is what you’re gonna focus on? You yourself list so many other real problems bellow but you’re going to lump this in with them? This is the kind self indulgent simpleton logic that leftists think we all use. The right of the child to not suffer damage to their lungs trumps the right of the parent to indulge in a habit. Those who refuse to meet the needs of their children before themselves deserve to be punished, for they do harm to their society’s future as well as their progeny.

Wow.

Americans are such pussified snowflakes now that they want the Gestapo to hold their hand when they pee-pee.

Americans used to support freedom, but they have now morphed into Nazis and Communists. Americans will easily go to the gulags because Fascists think the police state only affects Commies and Communists believe tyranny targets Nazis.

Conservatives tend to support small government, be moral, go to church, be responsible, be independent, and oppose killing unborn children. Conservatives generally dislike alcohol, drugs, premarital sex, and minorities.

Liberals often favor science and Socialism and are impulsive. Leftists are more likely to support welfare, drinking, drug use, homosexuality, and open borders.

Since Americans tolerate debt, wars, nanny state laws, Obamacare, food stamps, regulations, offshoring, homosexuality, increasing taxes, illegal immigrants, security cameras, license plate readers, checkpoints, redlight cameras, speed cameras, FBI facial and voice recognition, curfews, gun bans, searches without warrants, mandatory minimums, DNA databases, CISPA, SOPA, NDAA, IMBRA, private prison quotas, no knock raids, take down notices, no fly lists, terror watch lists, Constitution free zones, stop and frisk, 3 strikes laws, kill switches, National Security Letters, kill lists, FBAR, FATCA, Operation Chokepoint, civil forfeiture, CIA torture, NDAA indefinite detention, secret FISA courts, FEMA camps, laws requiring passports for domestic travel, IRS laws denying passports for tax debts, gun and ammo stockpiles, laws outlawing protesting, police militarization, NSA wiretapping, the end to the right to silence, free speech bans, private prisons, FOSTA, TSA groping, and Jade Helm then what is to stop the elites from sending the 99% to the concentration camps?

The US has crossed every line.

Life has become unbearable. Who wants to live in a prison? Hard work is punished with taxes and regulations, jobs have been offshored, illegal immigrants are flooding the country, and laziness is rewarded with welfare.

Wake the fuck up.

I think banning the poisoning of children might not be as bad as kill lists.

Life has become unbearable in America? My god do you lack perspective. Please, go live in Sudan, or a cartel run city in Mexico, or in a warring part of Israel.

If you are such a precious little flower that you find the extremely cushy lives even those in poverty in America live in to be "unbearable" then you are one soft motherfucker.

This is NOT saying America is a perfect wonderland; it isn't. There are tons of problems, but you're acting like the world is ending. Get your head out of your ass man, if you have internet access and you're in America, you already have it much better than 70% of the rest of the world.

You need to wake the fuck up. Again, there are PLENTY of problems within America, but it's hardly unbearable and it's far from the dystopian prison you make it out to be.

Edit: This is all over some law banning cigs in cars with kids. Again, you sound like a child who was told he can't have cookies before dinner. Grow the fuck up man, you're embarrassing yourself.

(Posted separately so people can vote on it separately.)

Wake the fuck up.

You first. Acknowledging that you need to wake up is just the first step. Actually taking steps to do so is much harder – so hard that I've barely scratched the surface and I've been trying.

If you can bring yourself to do so, read The Codex and Predictably Wrong (note the different writing styles; you might prefer one over the other). Ignore any political opinions they might espouse; those are kept to a minimum and are completely unimportant – that's why you'll notice nobody arguing about them in the comments. The important thing is the techniques for overcoming bias and fallacies – and ultimately being able to work out what is true and what is not.

Alternatively, if you believe strongly about all of the things you're espousing, I'd like to play a little game with money involved. Inconsistent beliefs can be monetised, and I bet you won't keep your money.

If you find those too confusing, HPMOR is a very good Harry Potter fanfic that also serves as an introduction to the concepts required to understand this.

I am a horrible entitled American who smokes, constantly. When ever children, or any other non-smoker is present, I refrain from smoking. To me, this is simply common sense. I should also mention that I remember my mother nagging my dad about smoking when ever we went anywhere. Any law that forbids people from possibly harming those around them is alright by me.

Instead of saying that the US is the land of the free, why not just cut the bullshit and put every American in prison when they’re born?

[–]dcjogger[S] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Like slaves, Americans beg for their chains.

The elites tell Americans that they don't need freedom and Americans nod their heads and agree that they don't need freedom.

The 1% says that if vaping is not banned, Americans will get cancer.

The elites say that if flag-burning is not banned, Americans will have freedom.

The elites say that churches must be closed because of terrorism.

The elites say that protesting must be banned because protesters will break windows.

The ruling class says that newspapers must be closed because only the government can tell you the truth.

The elites say there must be subsidies or every company will go bankrupt.

The elites say that Americans must be forced to buy insurance or they will not get healthcare.

The 1% says that Americans must get food stamps or everyone will starve to death.

The ruling class say that everyone must be wiretapped, tortured, and groped or there will be terrorism.

The elites say that if withdrawing cash from your own bank account is not banned, Americans will buy drugs.

The elites say that if restaurants are not licensed, businesses would have a vested interest in selling poisoned food.

The elites say that if guns are not banned, Americans will be shot.

The elites say that if everyone does not give DNA samples to the government then little girls will be raped.

The elites say that if hammers are not banned, Americans will have their heads smashed in with hammers.

Americans are so enslaved now that patriots who warn about the dangers of tyranny will be slammed for criticizing the beloved overlords of Americans.

Every country has the government it deserves.
