You’re thinking of neoliberal centrists, not tge left. Think the difference between Bernie Sanders and Clinton. Saying Clinton is “the left” is a huge insult to progressives

The most protected identities are on the left, not the right. Always have been. The right protects anyone with money, the left protects anyone with "character". Nothing turns a person left quicker than new money or rich parents. This is the image problem the left cannot shake... too many rich bolshies and their violent orbiters survive off fake-right, neoliberal money. This is not a centrist position as much a 'two sides of the same coin' issue.
