Ok. Let's take the Bronze Star out of the discussion. The guy was in a combat zone with the constant threat of being killed. One has to ask what the motivation and background of those critics are. I was told that when you buy a used car, you constantly point out flaws in the car to nickel-and-dime the price of the car down. If you can point out a lot of minor, usually meaningless/superficial flaws, it tricks the buyer into lowering the price by a large amount. I think this is what the TDS afflicted are trying to do with Trump's cabinet nominees.

The article is explaining what the Bronze Star means. Do you think most Americans know what the Bronze Star signify? The article also mentioned that Hegseth received the Combat Infantry Badge and explained its meaning.

The author implied that the Bronze Stars, in Hegeth's case, were symbolic of the campaign and not for bravery, and by extension, he was just another officer in back of the lines in a support role. They are trying to weaken the meaning of the Bronze Star in the minds of the readers to weaken the armor of Hegseth's military career. Look at the official headline, "Bronze Stars, like those Hegseth earned, are common among military officers".

But it's correct. A Bronze Star with a "V" denotes valor in combat. Hegseth Bronze Star didn't have a "V". As the article points out, the Bronze Star is common among military officers. This could lessen a person's opinion of Hegseth's military career but it's the truth.
