It probably would have been better if Ukraine had just given the Donbas freedom to choose, as Donbas is majority Russians anyway. Now a lot of Ukraine is in ruins and thousands are dead, and when there’s been a lot more death and destruction, the settlement will have Donbas being two Russian speaking countries.

The ruling class (Zelenskiy in this case) are not the people. Zelenskiy is a jewish low-grade comedian, he cares nothing about Ukrainians, he even likely relishes all the death and destruction.
