So who really profits, would this just be a way to fuck with China? Because there's no way I believe either party cares about saving the lives of American drug users.

Society would benefit greatly from ending the war on drugs. No more cartels. Multibillions in taxes some of which could be used to help addicts who want help. Less people rotting in prison for victimless crimes. Unfortunately too many politicians are invested in the for profit prisons we have going here in the US, so would probably have to do it through executive order. Don’t think there’s any potential candidates atm brave enough to actually do it though.
