A few years ago, the California Franchise Tax Board (FTB -- California's income tax collection agency)) demanded money from me that they knew — by their own records — that I didn’t owe, along with late fees, penalties and interest. This was straight up illegal.

When I tried to get the illegal practice stopped, I found out that the bureaucracy has been set up to protect corruption. I also stumbled across even more illegal activity.

Last month, I went to Sacramento and made a speech to legislators about putting an end to the illegal practices and changing the bureaucracy so it no longer protects bad behaviors. My speech is the link above (source: https://origin-www.ftb.ca.gov/law/meetings/12102018/Audio-Video-2.mp4 )

By law, the legislators have until February 1, 2019, to give me a yes or no on whether they will make the 8 policy changes that I requested.

Over the last couple of years, I have devoted hundreds of hours into trying to getting these policies changed. I have contacted the legislators listed below almost once a month, trying to persuade them to protect taxpayers. At first, they politely stalled me. Eventually, they ignored me. In October 2018, they gave me a big F-YOU by voting to make it harder to fight the FTB in court (point 5 in video).

I am certain that the legislators will say no to my requests as an individual. But, because these are elected officials, they will have no choice but to bow to public pressure if enough people join in to support me.

So please, take 2 minutes to e-mail Governor Gavin Newsom (https://govapps.gov.ca.gov/gov40mail/), email State Controller Betty Yee (https://www.sco.ca.gov/eo_contact.html), and call Keely Bosler, Director of California Department of Finance at (916) 445-4141, and tell them “I saw the video of Christine Grab's FTB speech and I want you to enact all of the changes that she requested."

If you want to take this one step further, you can also forward the video to your Assemblyman and State Senator and ask them to join in making these changes, too. http://findyourrep.legislature.ca.gov.
