A lot of the media I was watching was against the invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan. Fox was steadfastly in favour though.

True. That was 20 years ago though. And all the major channels were on board. Just as they are now with Ukraine.

Putin was already prime minister of Russia. Fox's lines of being pro-war, and pushing climate science denial, was already supporting him. Although they also pushed tax cuts, so plausibly Murdoch had clients internal to the US with money in arms and/or fossil fuels.

Their line on CoVID, which resulted in a more deaths amongst viewers didn't support any American-based group. On the other hand, the signalling on that varied across the network, so perhaps it wasn't driven from Murdoch. For instance viewers of Hannity died more of CoVID than viewers of Tucker Carlson Tonight, despite the shows being on the same network and back-to-back.

What is known is that Murdoch has a business model where reach is more important than sales, and even marketing. When he bought the times in the U.K. and halved the price, he was, on paper, losing money hand-over-fist. We must suspect that he was selling the native advertising off the books.
