If we can raid the former president and take literally every document from his home, we can do the same to anyone. Corn pop set the precedent. If he gets hoist by that petard I'm going to make sure I dunk on my lefty coworker about it for a month

The raid on Mar-a-Lago was right up there with the Watergate burglary in terms of US government malfeasance. Expect more insurrections unless Joe Biden and his entire party and family go to prison for life.

More than zero? I do expect that, given a long-enough time frame.

I think the possibility of a US President to print a classified document is stupid to begin with. You can't trust people over 50 with high security clearance.

The report stated that the documents were found while Biden's attorneys were packing up the office to leave.

So the DOJ didn't have to get a search warrant?

I'm not sure the DOJ was facing the same political pressure to 'get' former VP Biden as they were to 'get' former President Trump for something

This is the DOJ that is defending Trump in the Carroll rape-defamation lawsuit?

This persecution complex you have about legal injustices to Trump doesn't seem to match the facts.

It doesn't look like he tried to hide the files, then sent some of them back claiming that that was all of them, and that he'd done an exhaustive search, dragging it out for a year and a half, necessitating a search warrant to get the files back.

You seem to be mistaking me for some sort of conservative, I'm not a fan of Trump. I don't think its 'unjust', he wasn't supposed to have the documents. I am simply suggesting that the dems really wanted something to 'stick' to Trump to stop him from being president again, whereas I doubt anyone was going around looking for things VP Biden did wrong at the time with the same enthusiasm.

I agree that Trump's file hoarding seems more overtly intentional, but it's also not like Biden had to hide them if nobody was looking for them, which it seems nobody was

This isn't the dems. This is between the National Archives and Records Administration, the Department of Justice, Trump, and his Lawyers.

It was reported that the white house wasn't briefed about the search warrant, and I find that perfectly plausible.

Strongly suspect that he didn't know that they were there. I'd give it more than 50% that he's responsible for them being there, but had forgotten or lost track of them after his election. Having said that, I don't know that there weren't other people at that office with some level of security clearance.

They will be trying to persecute Trump after he dies. Maybe by then, they will have found something to pin on him. If there was any there there, they would’ve found it in 2017.

    [–]ActuallyNot 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

They're late. People wanted to impeach Trump when it became clear that he was committing the crimes that the Mueller Report alluded to.

But that doesn't affect the DOJ. They will do their investigation, and lay charges according to their standards.

    [–]JewsAreOfColor 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

So they were grasping at straws to justify overthrowing a legitimately elected Republican president for standing in the way of an illegal immoral imperialist terrorist white supremacist war for oil against the sovereign Asian nation that beat Hitler.

to justify overthrowing a legitimately elected Republican president

Well, to be fair, the whole point was that he wasn't the president anymore when they were whining about the documents, so overthrowing seems a bit of hyperbole, but yes, they are clearly on a witchhunt to 'get' him

    [–]JewsAreOfColor 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

If he is still being targeted by witchhunts, then he’s still the president. And as far as I’m concerned, he always will be.

    [–][deleted] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

I think they are terrified of him being president again, and that is creating the motivation to 'get' him, even though he is no longer the president

Either Trump gets his second term or the American experiment is over. I am not sharing my country with degenerates and traitors anymore.

The only reason the GOP is still alive as a political party on any level is because of Donald Trump. Do you want to go back to the days of Bush after Bush after Bush and “please clap?“

    [–]JewsAreOfColor 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (6 children)

Illegal searches and seizures are forbidden by the fourth amendment. The persecution of Donald Trump and the GOP is a punishment in search of a crime. It is a violation of his constitutional rights.

Illegal searches and seizures are forbidden by the fourth amendment.

Yeah, that's why they got a search warrant.

The persecution of Donald Trump and the GOP is a punishment in search of a crime.

No, they had reasonable cause to believe he was committing crimes, and, after repeated negotiations to try to get back the documents, eventually went the pathway of getting a search warrant. Very few other citizens would've got so much consideration. The search warrant didn't come until after 18 months of investigations.

It is a violation of his constitutional rights.

I can't find the part of the constitution that says you're allowed to commit crimes without having them investigated. Would you mind pointing me to the section you're talking about?

    [–]JewsAreOfColor 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

Read the second amendment. Everything that happened on January 6 is covered under that.

    [–]ActuallyNot 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

I can't see where it says "search warrants are unconstitutional" anywhere in the 27 words that are the second amendment.

    Did you misread it?

    [–]JewsAreOfColor 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

“Unreasonable searches and seizures“ is the violated amendment. Trump is being persecuted for being a Republican. He has done nothing wrong. The GOP is incapable of wrongdoing. Ever. For any reason. It has been above the law ever since it was formed in 1854 to oppose slavery. If you hate the GOP, then you support slavery.

    [–]ActuallyNot 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

“Unreasonable searches and seizures“ is the violated amendment.

So by second amendment you mean fourth amendment?

It's not unreasonable to recover stolen records, especially ones with military significance. But Trump as also destroying records, and they also needed to be seized to protect them.

    [–]JewsAreOfColor 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

The second amendment is the one that says “well regulated militia.” Taking back stolen elections is one of the duties of that militia. This is why the freedom fighters of January 6 were and are justified and why the riots in Brazil were and are justified. The right is going to win.

The unreasonable search and seizure of property from Mar-a-Lago was and is a violation of the fourth amendment. Biden is going to prison for that. Obtaining a search warrant under false pretenses is also against the law.

    Felony for sure

    [–]JewsAreOfColor 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Yes, felony violation of the fourth amendment rights of the real President of the United States. If they can violate the constitutional rights of the President, then the Constitution is not worth the paper it’s printed on.

    [–]JewsAreOfColor 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

It’s only a crime when Republicans do it because crime is defined by who is doing it and not what is being done. /SARC
