Dumbing down? Wow, that's needlessly partisan. You don't need a bachelor's to teach in a public school. It's just that there are a ton of control freaks in education administration. They only want their own kind teaching children. Teacher just isn't that hard of a job, but they're really trying hard to gatekeep and exclude anyone who doesn't fit their mold.
