Ireland does not need an MI5 equivalent. What we do need is to adopt a Swiss style military and train our population how to use guns.

Totally not what I expected you to say.

Interesting - so you are in favour of a large militia-style land force in Ireland - but against who? What threat requires it, in 2022? Are the Brits at it again?

What defence would a militia give against the sort of things which are actually threatening Ireland - such as russians buzzing the airspace or doing maneuvers in fishing zones, or basing their spies from the huge embassy?

I want my country to be able to prepare for the worst case scenario without being America's bottom bitch.

Right but what sort of scenarios does a militia prepare Ireland for, that a navy or airforce or security service wouldn't ? I mean, you know the geography, a land force in Ireland is useful against precisely one antagonist, who is already America's special ally. So I don't get it really. Ireland has real threats which America doesn't guard it against, and a militia wouldn't do much to help that

We want to make it as hard and as costly as possible for our adversaries. Duh.

Right but - are you deliberately dodging the question? - how does a militia make it hard, and for whom? What is the problem which a militia solves? I really really don't think you're talking about the Brits but it's possible you are. But because you refuse to explain its hard to tell
