Twenty year occupation of a landlocked mountainous country on the other side of the planet. (Most of that time with almost no popular will powering the military machine). With a fraction of the casualties of just the few months war in Ukraine already. Yeah it ought to worry the Russians. Lend lease has already passed - this can drift out of American focus and the states will still be sending a trillion dollars in weaponry just on autopilot. And it will take political will to revoke - just like the embargo of Cuba. Yeah it ought to worry the Russians.

Lost would be, afghans waving the Taliban flag on the mall outside Congress with the commander in chief's severed head rolling down the steps before the big Lincoln statue.

In reality they pulled out, chased out it's fair to say, but in a way that should still give America's enemies pause. If your point is that the Russian army has nothing to worry about because of Afghanistan then your friends on snake island will tell you, that's very wrong

They maintained a 20 year occupation of a landlocked country in the mountains with no political will behind them. They did pretty well. And Ukraine will do a lot better on their home turf
