I dont think any individual or groups of people are intending it to happen. The culture is always shifting. And in our current culture there's large swaths of people who suffer from very low self-esteem and to remedy their low self-esteem they try desperately to be hip. Also in our current culture it's hip to be a marginalized minority.

Seems obvious that if it were possible for people to change their skin color lots of self hating white people would take that opportunity in a second to be a part of a more hip ethnicity. Of course that's not feasible or culturally acceptable but being trans is.

This may seem like an irrelevant example but to me i think it's a very telling example of the whole social media culture how quickly people are to use new acronyms. It's insane and very moronic but people do this thing nowadays where they're so desperate to be hip that they use brand new, made up acronyms that they know most people have never heard. Because most people never heard of it. All out of a severe desperation to be hip.

As Bill Maher says in his new rule segment, it's the parents causing this effect on their own children more than anything else in places like LA. And i think those parents cause that effect out of a desire to be hip. Though i'm sure a lot of the time it may not be because of the parents but just other environmental factors in kid's lives.
