In practice, the Supreme Court is just another federal legislature

Sadly, thanks to Democrats, it is. Granted its legislative procedure is more strictly controlled and measured and less dysfunctional than Congress's.

Although I don't think abolishing it would substantially change anything. Like all branches of government, SCOTUS's dysfunction is a reflection of our dysfunction as a society. Half the country wants the Constitution interpreted like the legal document it is because they see it as the foundation to our fundamental rights and rule of law, while the other half doesn't because they see the Constitution as a roadblock to their agenda and ability to push change via judicial fiat.

Abolishing the court won't change that divide.
