I'll go with sad. It's tragic that when mobs form, voices pleading against the on-the-ground reality of violence become hated. Mobs don't want peace. They scream for blood. The lowest elements of human nature at work.

"Cognitive dissonance" is used a lot to describe people acting in contradiction to their stated belief structures. When the mob becomes this irrational, however, belief structures disappear entirely. They are not thinking at all. This is pure bloodlust, and it's a hell of a drug. :(
