So they announce the merger. Stock soars. She sells. What's wrong?

The timing suggests foreknowledge. When our politicians use the information afforded to their positions to profit off of the market that's taking money out of the hands of normal investors like myself. Like stealing but legal.

I am not sure that is what is going on here.

It looks like there was an announcement. They traded after the announcement, thnking it was going to tank. And then the stock soared. And they lost out.

The most important thing is the timing, not whether or not she made the right market call although I didn't really pay much attention to that.

The article makes it sound like she sold AFTER the announcement.

Insider trading would be information gained from work. Like she sat on a SEC joint committee, and she made the sale weeks before the merger was announced.

She made the sale with the knowledge that everyone else had.

Did you know about it?

They are saying same day. Like they announced it. Then she sold. I respect you and your posts a lot. You are one of my favorite posters.

You write with great insight most days. I'm not sure today is that day. It appears, based on the article, the sale was made after the announcement.

If I am not making sense let's agree to disagree.
