lol, that "economy turn around" was a carryover from Obama's second term as President. Can you point towards any legislation trump passed that was responsible for the "economy turn around"?

I hope you anti Trump people are happy the way the economy has taken a shit

The economy took a shit because trump's incompetence in handling COVID19. trump failed to promptly stop incoming flights from China for those who are not American citizens. trump first tried to ignore COVID19. When COVID19 could no longer be ignored, trump downplayed how severe COVID19 is because he did not know what to do in combating the pandemic.

In 2020, unemployment reached a high of 14.7% on trump's watch. Obama and Biden never had unemployment at 14.7%. Hell, trump's unemployment is more than double the rate when he inherited the white house from Obama.

The economy briefly did work under Trump which is amazing

Yeah, 14.7% unemployment under trump was real "amazing".

The coronavirus pandemic soon walloped the economy, forcing swaths of businesses across the country to close. The unemployment rate skyrocketed to 14.7% in April.

To be fair, the coronavirus didn't force those businesses to close, our shut down mandate did.

Flight restrictions wouldn't have helped either, the virus was already here by the time we even considered that, just as we found again with Omicron and the Africa Travel Ban that clearly didn't do anything

If trump did not screw up his response, that would not have been necessary because COVID19 would have been under control.

Flight restrictions wouldn't have helped either

Yes it would, less people coming in with the disease means less people to spread it.

If trump did not screw up his response, that would not have been necessary because COVID19 would have been under control, so I have some doubt that would be the case

I will grant you that Trump's response was less than ideal, and that may have contributed to why USA has a very high deaths per capita compared to many other countries. However, when I look around the world, I don't see any country that country that has it "under control".

Yes it would, less people coming in with the disease means less people to spread it.

By that logic we should be STILL be restricting all the flights, even though scientists say Omicron is endemic and everyone will get it.

I'm not trying to pick a fight with you ShalomEveryone, just think there is more nuance here than you are portraying. While we seem to disagree, I don't think of you as ideological enemy, I myself have some interest in communist theory. I don't think state-centralized communism has been shown to work very well, but Marx had some really Important ideas, and I am fascinated by Kropotkin's decentralized Anarcho-Communism.

No other country has the resources that America has. COVID19 would not have ravaged America like it did if it weren't for his incompetence. It would have been under control in the sense that it would not have been as nearly as bad as it was because of trump's incompetence.

By that logic we should be STILL be restricting all the flights

Nope, wrong logic you're using. At first there were no COVID19 tests. Also, there were no vaccines unlike now. There's no need to stop incoming flights from China.

I'm not trying to pick a fight with you ShalomEveryone

That's obvious, you're not lobbing insults. We're just two people with differing opinions.

just think there is more nuance here than you are portraying.

Nope, trump could have been proactive but he was not. It would be an insult to even say he was reactive because he took too long to get his ass in gear.

I myself have some interest in communist theory.

What does communism have to do with trump's incompetence in handling COVID?

Fair point. I won't even attempt to defend Trump's handling of the situation. Its possible things could have been much better with a different response, I think it would have made a differnce, but guess I still have some doubts that it wouldn't still be a similar situation. I can respect where you are coming from here though. We disagree about a magnitude not the basic facts.

Nope, wrong logic you're using. At first there were no COVID19 tests. Also, there were no vaccines unlike now. There's no need to stop incoming flights from China.

You have a point on the testing. The vaccines, we now know, reduce the severity of infection, not prevent infection or transmission according to Walensky and the CDC. The sky high case rates in highly vaccinated countries like Israel is also evidence of this. Again I think this is just a disagreement about the perceived magnitude of the benefits of the vaccine, because I still see a lot of disruption even with the vaccines, testing, and Omicron being less deadly.

What does communism have to do with trump's incompetence in handling COVID?

Absolutely nothing, but most people I talk to who disagree me assume I am a Republican and an ideological enemy who IS trying to pick a fight with them, despite the fact the I am not lobbing insults. I appreciate that you recognize this is not the case, but it happens so often, I try to be clear that isn't where I am coming from.

it still would have spread according to the CDC, closing borders would just be to slow it so hospitals aren't overworked, they're always full before covid anyway though.

it still would have spread according to the CDC

Not at the high rate that it did previously.

closing borders would just be to slow

No it wouldn't. Have agents close stop incoming traffic except for the traffic that's deemed essential. Trucks with goods and such. You're just making excuses to excuse trump's incompetence.

Trump tried to do it early to nip it in the bud but got name called for it and it was overthrown or something. I remember he tried to do it but couldn't get it passed and now look where we are! Everything Biden has been given credit for Trump did first and better.

[–]ShalomEveryoneCommunist Party 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

Trump tried to do it early

Tried how? I don't recall trump doing so. If trump wanted to close early all he had to do was execute an executive order. If trump let name calling delay taking action that only goes to show how inept he was at running America.

and it was overthrown or something.

It wasn't. "Or something", lol.

Everything Biden has been given credit for Trump did first and better.

Unemployment under trump peaked at 14.7%, Biden never had unemployment rate that high. Looks like Biden is currently doing a better job of the economy than trump.

trump did and was called racist for closing borders. It's true he downplayed covid at first which was correct to do as it's just the sniffles. I don't think they did the wuhan bioweapon to stop trump cuz it's still going, it's the new normal of taking away rights.

[–]ShalomEveryoneCommunist Party 2 insightful - 3 fun2 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

trump did and was called racist for closing borders.

He took too long to close the border because of his incompetence. trump was called a racist going back to the primaries, that did not stop the way he acted.

It's true he downplayed covid at first

At first he ignored it, then he downplayed it when he could no longer ignore it.

covid at first which was correct to do as it's just the sniffles.

The very same sniffles that sent him to the hospital for a weekend during the Presidential Election? The very same sniffles that gave him labored breathing from walking up some stairs after coming home from the hospital?

it's the new normal of taking away rights.

What rights did people lose? People cant own guns? People cant vote? People cant own a business?

Ha ha ha! Go back to R/politics you Reddit shill. Or are you bored of your liberal hate Trump echo chamber and trying to spread it here?

Ha ha ha! Go back to R/politics you Reddit shill.

Sounds like you were banned from reddit which is why you felt it was necessary to bring up reddit. Like a bitter exgirlfriend who constantly brings up the exboyfriend who dumped her.

I like how you did not refute a thing I said because we both know you cant. The economy went to shit on trump's watch. Under trump's watch unemployment peaked at 14.7%.

Yeah they did though. Obama's team 'cooked' the books to make the economy look better then it did. In fact we sold our house in 2013 to downgrade because at that time they were heavily peddling it for his election time which many fell for and a year later it turned out to be phony (unless you watch CNN) and house prices fell. We got a good value for our house for fixing things up and a year later we would've lost out. Dad knew it was the right time as a year before was also crappy to sell. The 2013 hope briefly turned things around then it fell again unless you lived in a Red state then things held on longer which the media twisted to say Obama did it. F'king liars. I don't know to be mad at the media puppets or idiots like you that believe every line.

[–]ShalomEveryoneCommunist Party 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Okay, ABC news is not reputable. Here's the following from Fox News.

The claims numbers come one day before the release of the April jobs report, which is expected to show a staggering jump in unemployment to around 16%.

I guess ABC News truly is not reputable, they got it wrong. Unemployment peaked at 16% under trump.

ABC is a liberal shill hole also so shoo now! BLOOOOOOOOOOOOOCKED!

lol, quick to run away when you read something that goes against your viewpoint.

It's obvious they have hijacked this site and turned it into Reddit Lite. What the hell happened to all the real conservatives that packed the stadiums to vote at Trump's rallies to bring back America?

What the hell happened to all the real conservatives that packed the stadiums to vote at Trump's rallies to bring back America?

They're dying off from COVID19 because they're antivaxers.

Pro-Trump counties now have far higher COVID death rates. Misinformation is to blame

Since May 2021, people living in counties that voted heavily for Donald Trump during the last presidential election have been nearly three times as likely to die from COVID-19 as those who live in areas that went for now-President Biden. That's according to a new analysis by NPR that examines how political polarization and misinformation are driving a significant share of the deaths in the pandemic.

There's a whole lot of people in America who don't usually vote.

A lot of them came out for Trump. A different lot came out for Obama.

They vote for certain personalities or policies not parties.

You'll need another Trump or someone as charismatic to get them interested in politics again.

[–]AntarchomachusAnarchist 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (5 children)

You are right about this, but I would also add that hatred of Trump seemed to drive Democrat turn out despite the lack of Biden's charisma

[–][deleted] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

and trump was only popular among conservatives because he annoyed democrats, they thought that must mean he's good, usually regular politicians like mitch mcconnell are too weak and compliant to dems, no fight. Of course then trump became prez and sold out, so it was just a facade. Mean tweets are nice but where is that promised wall?

[–]AntarchomachusAnarchist 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

and trump was only popular among conservatives because he annoyed democrats

Yeah I think there is something to that. I also think because he wasn't a normal politician and said he was gonna 'drain the swamp' had something to do with it. People on both sides think the establishment is corrupt. The leftists voted for Bernie for very similar reasons that rights voted Trump - a populist message that the establishment is corrupt, and they will fix it. I bought into this from Bernie and voted for him, although he showed his true colors by staying silent while Big Pharma, that he said is evil, lied to us once again.

[–][deleted] 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

pelosi was the first one I remember saying she would drain the swamp, politically speaking. I'm sure it was around before that, good catch phrase. I'm still waiting for any politician to ever keep their campaign promises. Bernie would have sold out too.

[–]AntarchomachusAnarchist 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

pelosi was the first one I remember saying she would drain the swamp, politically speaking.

🤣hilarious, Pelosi is literally the Swamp Thing

Bernie would have sold out too.

Yes he would've, I am angry at myself for trusting him, he really had me convinced he would stand up to Big Pharma and the Elites, but I think he was sheepdogging for the DNC to increase engagement among people like me who wouldn't wanna vote for Biden, then hit us with the bait and switch, and say oh now you gotta vote for Biden, or else Evil The Donald is gonna destroy the world. I didn't fall all the way for it and vote Biden, but Bernie did have me fooled

[–][deleted] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I really don't trust anyone, but I used to think "well you can't say all politicians are bad, maybe it's 99% but there still exists the chance an honest and good man would not sell out"

But we keep seeing this same thing time and again. I'm sure they read machiavelli and use it to gain power otherwise they wouldn't be where they are. I remember seeing a report Bernie wrote an article in college about how women enjoy being raped, which is sad but true and must have come from the mind of a person that understands the reality of the world which is harsh.

The Trump fan base is at patriots.win, that's where r/thedonald moved to. The people here are generally a little too smart to fall for a cult of personality.

Let's go Brandon, when Trump was in office people got stimulus checks, Biden has gave you ?. Well he did sent your troops running like cowards from afghan and gave them billions of dollars of weapons and vehicles. Plus Biden Administration Backs Oil Sands Pipeline Project, crime is up so you got what you ask for.

[–][deleted] 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

it's true both W Bush and Trump sent out stimulus checks which benefit the poor, Obama and Biden did not, so ironically the recent repubs helped the poor and were more socialist than the dems.

[–]ShalomEveryoneCommunist Party 2 insightful - 3 fun2 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 3 fun -  (1 child)

Obama gave out no stimulus checks because it was unnecessary. Unlike Bush, Obama did not tank the American economy.
