What do you think about Britain abandoning their covid plan?

Short answer: it's typical Tory politics

Long answer: More Brits per capita have suffered from COVID than in most other countries with populations over 10 million, noted here. Thanks to the NHS and the government, most have been vaccinated. Potential for death caused by COVID for much of the population is now rather low, though long COVID is still possible. I almost never agree with Tories, but on the issue of 7% inflation, brought about by their BREXIT lies, they need to focus on small businesses and the service industry suffering from these Brexit mistakes and lax COVID regulations in the first year of COVID. So - whereas a mask mandate should continue (and some businesses will continue them) - getting people back to work is important. The UK government has also paid significant portions of people's salaries for the past 2 years (unlike in the US, which has a very different system). Thus, virus rates will increase with this new decision, and more people will suffer, but Tories see that some of the country's limitations have been reached. I think the mask mandate should continue, but would see that the reduction of the other restrictions is a decision to try to help the UK economy. Also, tourist season is about to begin.

Sounds like the pandemic is over, the US can't continue unless this turns out badly for Britain. Australia is doing it too. Only a matter of time before the US and Canada follow suit.

Let's hope. Recently while watching Bloomberg (on TV) I saw a multi-part segment on the question - "is the pandemic on track to become an epidemic soon?" Three times during the evening they asked different virologists (in different countries) this question, none of whom thought the pandemic would downgrade anytime soon, as there are expected to be other strains this year, when one considers the developments of strains in other countries and how they've easily spread to countries with lax COVID restrictions (eg. the US hasn't required testing after flights, as have some of the European countries). The Bloomberg reporter seemingly wanted the virologists to answer positively, as she asked the same question in several ways. So at the moment investors watching Bloomberg will likely expect the pandemic to continue in some form through at least the 4th quarter.
