1943 the US and Brits began to discuss the post war economy since Europe was going to be economically destroyed by the end (Bretton Woods Agreement). They agreed that the US would fund European banks in exchange for gold. By the 1960s Europe wanted their gold back but where's the gold? Google about auditing Fort Knox to find out about that.

By the 1970s the US realized that they had to find other ways to maintain their world currency and decided Oil would be a big part of that (that's what OPEC is - an agreement to sell oil only with US dollars). The negotiation with the Saudis and other Arab countries was the oil crisis of the 70s since these Arab countries stopped selling oil while they were arguing about the price. The US was offering military aid so one of the sticking points was that these countries wanted to be able to kill all the Jews - Which. Is. Insane.

The US instead made the deal but also gave Israel the Nukes and military aid to prevent the obvious genocide from happening. It was a good deal overall. The US makes shit tons on military sales/support/consulting for all sides and they continue to have high demand for their currency since other counties need to pay for oil and all its subsidiary markets/products in US dollars (unless they buy outside of OPEC - See the constant Venezuelan disasters for that one) .

That's where we are today. Pretty much explains most US foreign policy decisions and wars for the last 80 years.
