You don't know that, because you've presented no data to the contrary. We've got one set of data, and no criticism of it. (Barring "data is fake news", which doesn't meet the criteria of a criticism, being a opinion with no evidence).

So, since that's the best estimate we have, lets assume that it's about correct, unless we have a good reason to doubt it.

Would need to show video of people dropping in the streets, or first hand accounts from people.

No, that would be a spot sample of a single location or anecdotes. To know the numbers across the country, you have to look at data from the whole country.
