Democracy doesn't work compared to what? What other forms of government are there that are better?

Also, is the mostly Democratic West and its massive progress and success in just about every human field imaginable over the last few hundred years not good enough for you? Would you rather live under a Communist Dictatorship like China, or Communist Dictatorship like Russia, or a Monarchist Dictatorship like Thailand, or whatever the hell most countries in Africa are ruled under?

Trade between nations has been going on for thousands of years, not just several hundred. Civilization was partially founded on trade. Yet it's only within the last 200 years or so, since the rise of Democracy in the West, and particularly in America, that we've seen an explosion in human progress.

Your monarchy theory is interesting. You're familiar with Thailand being a monarchy and how that's going for them at the moment, yes? How their (unelected) prince is widely despised by many citizens yet still remains in power due to a fine mix of tradition, loyalty, and propaganda as he continues to funnel billions from his country's coffers to himself and his cohorts?

In case you're wondering what he looks like, here are a few pictures:

He's the one with all the tattoos and wearing what looks like a sports bra. Stylish fella.

At least with Democracy, you can (usually) get rid of crappy leaders every four years and replace them with people who may not be as crappy. Not so much with a leader who claims the divine right to rule for as long as he and his family wishes.

Do absolute monarchies even exist these days? And I believe Thailand's monarchy was for show until the recent guy, who started imposing his will and syphoning money from the government, money which belongs to his family, granted, in much the same way the British royals own a great deal of property the British government uses under the agreement that they'll be taken care of with few to no obligations so long as they don't start attempting to impose their will upon legislation. I believe the reason for the outrage around the Thai prince is because 1) he's broken an unspoken rule and begun imposing his will on the government and 2) he dresses like a cheap hooker and behaves in an otherwise unbecoming manner for someone who is supposed to be "divinely ordained." He apparently held a ceremony some years ago where one of his wives or girlfriends was made to be topless throughout, which didn't go over well with the populace. I haven't looked into this stuff in detail, honestly. It all sounds quite wacky.

I don't disagree with you about how Democracy is run currently, especially in the US, but, again compared to just about every other system of governance we have, it's an improvement. Unfortunately the only way to truly be above any of this stuff is and likely always will be to be wealthy. Otherwise, you're just a servant subject to the whims of those above you. Democracy and Capitalism at least open that door to people who otherwise never would have had that opportunity.
