What people often don't get is that the people we are getting from places like Somalia are the upper and middle classes. They are the only people in the country who can afford to travel to the UK. One Somalian anti FGM campaigner I follow literally had a solid gold cot when she was a baby. Her family had to flee because they were warring with other tribes and lost, not for any political or identity oppression by the state. Because they claim asylum for being on the losing side rather than for what they are it's quite common for Somali asylum seekers to send their kids back to Somalia for schooling so the next generation is reminded of their past privileged position as well.

Then when they get here they become resentful they aren't treated like royalty but instead treated just like everyone else. If they decide to live off benefits because they think that's clever and cunning they get put in the same crap social housing as everyone else, they don't have enough money for their kids to have the nice Western goods the other kids have. Then they often decide this is due to prejudice and oppression against them rather than the outcome of their own choices.

And of course the upper classes in places like Somalia are warlords. They already have the idea that violence is a legitimate means to take power and honour codes excusing violent retaliation set up and ready to go. I remember Somali Olympic runners saying they couldn't train because if they ran on the streets people would just take pot shots at them for being in a tribe they had a grievance against. The one good thing seems to be that because they have a strong honour code they don't have a rape culture like other Muslim groups, they become gangsters or terrorists instead.
