The real disaster was getting into a 20 year war costing trillions of dollars and hundreds of thousands of lives in a place we had no business being.

Actually, Afghanistan would have been very much worth it if the US would have been there for our own interests instead of standing guard in front of Russian and Chinese mining facilities.

I mean all the mineral shortages the US has, silicon, flourspar, zinc, nickel, copper, let alone the many rare earth minerals there. And the US stood guard over Russian and Chinese mines for how many years and got nothing out of it.

What a waste.

Unaware the purpose as exposed by Julian Assange in 2011 was MONEY LAUNDERING. "Julian Assange speaking in 2011: "The goal is to use Afghanistan to wash money out of the tax bases of the US and Europe through Afghanistan and back into the hands of a transnational security elite. The goal is an endless war, not a successful war" #Afghanistan. https://www.independentsentinel.com/was-julian-assange-correct-about-afghanistan-in-2011/#:~:text=August%2026%2C%202021%204%20In%202011%2C%20Julian%20Assange,nearly%203%20million%20views%20%23Afghanistan%20%23FreeAssange%20%23NoExtradition%20https%3A%2F%2Ft.co%2FD41YsFM9Kj

No the hidden purpose was to secure the route for the trans-Afghan gas pipeline. In 2001 prior to 9/11 the Taliban had been refusing to allow a US and Saudi big oil consortium to run a pipeline through Afghanistan. It was well published at the time, the talks broke down entirely after Dick Cheney tried to intimidate them with the infamous threat, "accept our carpet of gold or we will bury you under a carpet of bombs".

Thanks! Wasn't aware of that nugget of information. So no surprises the same remit in Syria, to get their pipeline through it. In Afghanistan from where which country to where was the pipe line?

Also were you aware of this? WikiLeaks - Julian Assange speaking in 2011: "The goal is to use Afghanistan to wash money out of the tax bases of the US and Europe through Afghanistan and back into the hands of a transnational security elite. Yes I heard that and I don't doubt all kinds of criminal corporate interests have ways to exploit war zones in similar ways but that was not the original reason for the Afghan war. It was all about the pipeline which was planned to bring oil and/or natural gas from the Caspian Sea down through Turkmenistan, Afganistan, Pakistan to India. They have now remamed it TAPI. (Probably to distance it from that original project).

They have pretty much sanitised the internet of the masses of incriminating information about it that used to be easy to find but some references to it still remain like this page from early 2002

Enron, UNOCAL, Cheney & Afghanistan
