I have always understood that the underlying meaning of the concept of a militia was to allow the people to protect themselves in the event that our own government becomes crazed with power.

The militia concept gives common people the privilege to organize against a renegade government that is no longer about serving the people but instead the government thinks that the people serve the government.

taking this into consideration, the "state guard" seems to be operated by the government... which goes against the grain of the concept of what a militia is supposed to be.

if one has a complaint that you want to file against the king, and your only avenue is to file that complaint with the king himself...

surely you see my point.

If the state guard is operated by the u.s. government, then it is not a "militia" as is defined by the second amendment. A true militia must be prepared to make a stand against the government, and therefore can not be operated by the government.
