What's an example of a story in the past 5 years that undermined your trust in media?

The russian piss story. Started on 4chan and MSM just ran with it like the retards they are. How about the "children in cages" that was literally a photo op of a protest? Or AOC going to detention centers for illegal immigrants when it was just another photo op of her staring at a parking lot. Or when MSM pulled a quote completely out of context to imply that Trump said ALL Mexican immigrants are rapists and murderers. Also, the "grab em by the pussy" quote caught on a hot mic and once again taken out of context. Or kavanaugh being a rapist when there was absolutely no evidence whatsoever.

Take your fucking pick. There are plenty more, but I believe I've made my point. Stop believing everything you're told and read beyond the headlines.

I'd assumed as much and I appreciate the heads up. I just really enjoy a good argument and nothing beats stomping the guts out of a smug liberal on the internet.

I don't think I could do otherwise lol.

Just play their game and start asking them questions. Especially if you know they're not a shill. Answering a question requires that they think about what they're saying, rather than going on autopilot and parroting MSM propaganda.

I'm not saying there's a 100% success rate, but making people think about the words they say is rarely a wasted effort.

Ah, I thought you were trying to shut down the discussion.

Thanks for the heads up on your being a waste of space at time.

      Don't believe everything Yin says.

He's not able to produce any sound backing for some batshit crazy ideas he's been peddling, and is lashing out at me, probably from the cognitive dissonance.

There's no chance a shill would bother with a corner of the internet this small.

I do confess to trying to broaden the ideas here on saidit, because reddit is something of a monopoly in the link collector space at the moment, so competitors are a good thing. But any rational person visiting here for the first time would read the crackpot and racist things being posted, and never come back.

So I think a rational counterpoint would be a good thing. Maybe saidit is a lost cause, but I'm only one person, and I only have so much time and energy for rational discourse with madmen like Yin.

See, you cannot even explain your views without sounding like an arrogant dickhead. It's not that everyone disagrees with you, it's that you're kind of insufferable.

I have friends in IRL life that I disagree with on a fundamental level, but they don't walk around with their nose stuck in the air constantly.

The reason people say you're a shill is because you act like the most stereotypical "smug liberal". People who think and act like you infest literally every space that isn't reddit and try to turn it into reddit.

You all use the same arguments and justifications. I've heard the "I'm just trying to broaden the ideas around here" meme so many times I can't even tell you.

Just try thinking outside the box for once. Just once, entertain an idea that's completely foreign to you.

The russian piss story. Started on 4chan and MSM just ran with it like the retards they are.

      Okay.

Are you aware of them reporting that they did exist, or that they were rumoured to exist?

How about the "children in cages" that was literally a photo op of a protest?

Certainly media sources photos from file to illustrate a story that is not always of the incident, or decade of the story. Cost cutting in the multi-media age, in response to drop in revenue from newspapers in the multimedia age.

Nevertheless the children in cages story was an important one to tell. And some of the stories did have current and correct photos.

Or AOC going to detention centers for illegal immigrants when it was just another photo op of her staring at a parking lot.

No, the media were right about that one.

      https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/aoc-empty-parking-lot/

Or when MSM pulled a quote completely out of context to imply that Trump said ALL Mexican immigrants are rapists and murderers.

This was them reporting what another politician said? Perhaps Tim Kaine.

There's a lot of mockery and straw manning that goes on in American politics. It's not obvious that the correct solution is to not report it.

Also, the "grab em by the pussy" quote caught on a hot mic and once again taken out of context.

I heard that tape, and there was enough context to know what Trump was on about. It was grabbing women by the pussy. Without bothering with the consent thing. Because you can get away with it if you're famous.

Or kavanaugh being a rapist when there was absolutely no evidence whatsoever.

The evidence was that a woman said that she'd been raped by Kavanaugh. As should have been investigated. But it wasn't. More evidence could have been upcoming, if they had at a minimum talked to the people involved.

Are you aware of them reporting that they did exist, or that they were rumoured to exist?

Does it matter? It's sloppy journalism at best and slander at worst.

Most of all, it doesn't inspire trust.

This was them reporting what another politician said? Perhaps Tim Kaine. There's a lot of mockery and straw manning that goes on in American politics. It's not obvious that the correct solution is to not report it.

Nope. That was Trump. I don't know how you missed that shitshow, but oh well.

I heard that tape, and there was enough context to know what Trump was on about. It was grabbing women by the pussy. Without bothering with the consent thing. Because you can get away with it if you're famous.

He literally said "they LET you do it" right afterward. That's the context you clearly missed.

The evidence was that a woman said that she'd been raped by Kavanaugh. As should have been investigated. But it wasn't. More evidence could have been upcoming, if they had at a minimum talked to the people involved.

It wasn't investigated? It wasn't headline news for months? He didn't have to defend himself before congress? His entire life wasn't picked apart at the seams?

The only evidence that was found was his journal which backed up his story.

Do you seriously want every 30 year old accusation to be thoroughly investigated? Because if that's the case, you raped me 30 years ago.

      [–]ActuallyNot[S] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Does it matter? It's sloppy journalism at best and slander at worst.

It's not sloppy journalism to report on a claim in the steele dossier, given that other claims in the dossier were proven.

The casual observer would be curious as to why an American president would be such a stalwart ally of a communist autocrat, on everything from the invasion of Ukraine to loosening economic asset freezes to supporting fossil fuel economy and climate science denial.

Nope. That was Trump. I don't know how you missed that shitshow, but oh well.

Tim Kaine exaggerated what Trump said about Mexicans to include all Mexicans. To be fair, a significant part of Trump's platform was keeping out Mexicans.

He literally said "they LET you do it" right afterward. That's the context you clearly missed.

Yeah. I didn't miss that context. It's still creepy as fuck. There are reasons like fear of consequences and shock that might be interpreted as "LET" after the fact.

      It wasn't investigated?

No. The FBI "investigation" was a whitewash that involved no investigation.

It wasn't headline news for months?

A couple of weeks. Kavannah was confirmed at close to the briskest pace possible.

He didn't have to defend himself before congress?

He did. He said he liked beer, and asked if one of the Senator's liked beer. Moscow Mitch moved it along as fast as allowable.

His entire life wasn't picked apart at the seams?

No it wasn't. The complaint was never investigated. We don't know why he paid off his loan so rapidly, except for his own claim about baseball tickets.

Do you seriously want every 30 year old accusation to be thoroughly investigated?

There's lots of reasons why you might want a supreme court justice to not be a criminal. For one thing you would wan't their decisions to tend towards justice.

Because if that's the case, you raped me 30 years ago.

Make your statement to the police. You might have my identity confused with someone else, but being raped is traumatic. You have my sympathies.
