This is the result of the Neocons never being held accountable for Iraq. The American people were furious over being misled and the nightmarish clusterfuck that was the Iraq war/occupation, and yet no one was ever investigated for it. Most of the same media figures that pushed for the war are still in place, or have actually been promoted. So the neocons and their agenda never went away, it just rebranded itself publicly while doing the exact same bullshit behind the scenes. You even have a new generation of "journalists" that are basically just "woke" neocons, although they would never use the neocon label anymore.
